Curious about the EPPP? Here’s a quick overview of this psychology licensure exam.
The EPPP stands for (Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology). If you're planning on becoming a licensed psychologist in the US or Canada, you'll need to take this exam. The ASPPB (Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards) and the Professional Examination Service (PES) are behind the EPPP.
Here's what you can expect: you'll have 225 multiple-choice questions to answer, each with four options, and you'll need to choose the right one. You'll have 4 hours and 15 minutes to finish. Only 175 of the questions count towards your score, the other 50 are experimental and are just being tested for future use. Don't worry, you won't know which ones are experimental, so just give it your best shot on all of them.
The EPPP's knowledge base is sorted into eight content areas by the ASPPB. These content areas, and the percentage of the 175 scored items that pertain to each category as of February 15, 2018 are:
Assessment and Diagnosis (16%)
Biological Bases of Behavior (10%)
Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior (13%)
Ethical/Legal/Professional Issues (16%)
Growth and Lifespan Development (12%)
Research Methods and Statistics (7%)
Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior (11%)
Treatment, Intervention, and Prevention and Supervision (15%)
To register for the EPPP, you must first apply for licensure to the licensing board or authority in your state, province, or territory. Once the licensing board or authority has determined your eligibility, an account will be created for you at the Certemy ASPPB EPPP registration portal and you will receive an email once your licensing board approves your registration.
If you want to know more about the exam and how to sign up, check out the Information for Candidates handbook on the ASPPB website (www.asppb.net). If you’re looking for information about registering for the exam, Pearson VUE is in charge of administering the EPPP.
